OPPORTUNITY

For more than four decades, Ken Burns and his colleagues at Florentine Films – directors, writers, producers, editors, and cinematographers – have produced some of the most critically acclaimed and most watched documentaries on public television.

In an effort to enhance and support the production of an upcoming Mohammed Ali documentary by Florentine Films and Ken Burns, the opportunity was to leverage our considerable network of relationships to connect relevant creative partners to the project.

STRATEGY

Deploy our networking and relationship-connecting approach to support the Ken Burns production by identifying creative partners who could contribute to the project in a relevant and meaningful way such that their involvement would serve to enhance and enrich the final product.

OUTCOMES

The creative partners that we identified and who helped to enhance the documentary included:

  • A former WBO (World Boxing Organization) champion, a long-time observer of Ali’s craft as a boxer, who in the documentary provides the unique perspective of a boxer’s experience and the gamut of challenges and feelings they face in and out of the ring.
  • A leading Grammy-award winning producer and writer of hip hop music, who wrote the original background music for the documentary, capturing the energy and ethos of the boxing experience.
  • One of the top 5 photographers/subject experts who followed Mohammed Ali on his journey and provided unique imagery for the production.

In addition to securing these cultivated relationships in support of the documentary, we were also able to secure supplemental funding for the upcoming slate of Ken Burns/PBS documentaries.
